The Albert Baker Scholarship – Uganda
The Albert Baker Fund (ABF) provides tuition scholarships to Christian Scientists who have demonstrated financial need and are pursuing degrees or certificates at accredited post-secondary institutions including colleges, universities, graduate schools, and vocational training programs.
Note: ABF reserves the right to approve or deny applications based on application requirements. A completed application does not necessarily guarantee approval.

🧑🎓 The Albert Baker Scholarship
The Albert Baker Fund (ABF) provides tuition scholarships to Christian Scientists who have demonstrated financial need and are pursuing degrees or certificates at accredited post-secondary institutions including community colleges, colleges, universities, graduate schools, and vocational training programs.
These funds are used for tuition and academic fees (only); not extra-curricular courses or “enrichment courses.”
Scholarships are made payable to educational institutions via wire transfer to your school’s student beneficiary account.
If there are any funds remaining after you are no longer enrolled, those funds must be returned to ABF. If for any reason, you are unable to attend classes after receiving the Albert Baker Scholarship, you cannot withdraw the funds for personal use.
Your school must be able to accept scholarship funds via international wire to receive this scholarship.

✔️ Eligibility Requirements
Qualifications to apply for the Albert Baker Scholarship:
- You are a student of Christian Science and a current member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
- You are able to provide a Christian Science reference.
- You maintain a GPA of 80% or higher.
- You are a citizen or legal permanent resident of Uganda.
- You are enrolled in an ABF approved accredited post-secondary institution located in Uganda.
- You have demonstrated financial need.
- Academic requirements: in good standing, making satisfactory progress towards your degree or certificate, and minimum enrollment is half-time.

🏫 List of Approved Schools Supported by ABF
The Albert Baker Fund will only support students attending these approved schools. Applications requesting funding for schools that are not on the list will be denied.

✍️ How to Apply for the Albert Baker Scholarship
Instructions:
- Request your personalized online application form.
- Write your student essays.
- Gather all other required documents. Many of the required documents may take several weeks to receive from third parties, so plan accordingly. Attachments must be submitted at the time of application.
- Complete and submit your application by the deadline. Allow a minimum of 6 weeks for processing of your application.
- Application Review Process: Once your application has been submitted, reviewed, and determined to be complete, you will be contacted to schedule an interview with one of ABF’s In-Country Representative (ICR) volunteers. This interview is required and will be conducted over the phone or by Zoom. There will then be a final review of the application by ABF staff before an award determination is made.
👀 Gather Required Documents
All required documents below must be saved as individual PDF files. Your Application will not be processed until they have been submitted.
☐ 1. Verification of Membership in The Mother Church (TMC)
To request verification of your membership in The Mother Church please email clerk@christianscience.com with your request and include your name, address, phone number, and membership number (if you have it). It may take several weeks to receive your email verification. Save the verification email as a PDF. Alternatively, you can submit your most recent per-capita form. If your application for membership in The Mother Church has been received by the Clerk’s Office, please contact Libby Scheiern directly.
☐ 2. Christian Science (CS) Reference
We require a reference from an active Christian Scientist who is not an immediate family member or peer who in the last year has personally witnessed your practice of Christian Science. They will be asked to speak to your character, integrity, and current practice of Christian Science including specific examples. Upon submission of your application, the Processing Agent will send an online form to your CS Reference to complete. Please contact your CS Reference to inform them that they have been selected to serve as your CS Reference.
☐ 3. Student Essays
⚠️ Note on using AI to help with this section: Upholding the fairness and authenticity of the ABF scholarship application process is critically important to us. Therefore, we require that your student essays are authentic and written in your own voice. You are welcome to use AI to assist in the process of drafting an outline for your student essays but please use your own words to write the essays.
☐ Essay 1: Purpose for Attending School
Please write a brief 1 page letter sharing your reasons and purpose for attending school. Please tell us about yourself, including your academic and non-academic interests. Share why you are furthering your education, your choice of career field, what you hope to accomplish with your education, and any future plans.
☐ Essay 2: Student Statement
Describe how you personally use Christian Science in your daily life, including specific examples. Include any other life circumstances you would like us to consider. The length of the essay should be one page, double-spaced, and no more than two pages. Label the top of your document with: Your Name, Date, School, and Year in School.
☐ Essay 3: How You Plan to Bless Others
Please write a brief 1 page letter sharing how your experience in school will bless others.
☐ 4. Academic Transcript
The academic transcript for your most recently completed high school or college term must include your name, date of the term, grades for courses taken during the term, and the term GPA.
☐ 5. Letter of Enrollment / Acceptance of Admission or Course Schedule
First year students must provide a letter showing enrollment or acceptance of admission for the upcoming term at your accredited institution. Returning students must provide a course schedule for the upcoming term.
☐ 6. Invoice From Your School
Attach the invoice from your university, vocational school, or hostel showing how much they expect you to pay for the next academic term.

- Course Detail and Amount- with a course item breakdown of the expense and cost in local currency.
- Signature AND Stamp of School Official or Hostel Owner

☐ 7. Prepare Estimates of Your Educational Expenses
Estimate expenses for the following items. You will enter these amounts directly in the online application, no attachment necessary.
- Tuition
- Housing
- Supplies, books, and equipment (such as computer)
- Required fees (academic, healthcare, other)
- Meals
- Travel
☐ 8. Bank Wire Information
Attach bank information from your university, vocational school with the international account details that the ABF award funds can be wired to. This should be on official letterhead, dated, signed, and stamped. Details required for an international wire transfer are below. If we do not receive these details, we cannot transmit a scholarship award.
